Swan 46 – Fresh water leak on Katface

18 June 2013

Posted 08/10/2013: Some years ago I had a lot of trouble with my combination of water pressure system and manual pumps. I fitted a tap on the water pipe from the tanks to the manual pumps so that when not in use I could turn that system off. Later I fitted individual taps to each pump so that I could selectively use them. Regards, Paul – Foreign Affair

Posted 08/10/2013: I would like to thank the group for 2 excellent suggestions on the fresh water leak. The two sources from much appreciated responses were the tank float sensor gaskets and the fresh water fill tube connection under the deck fitting. I have a third to add: The hand pump for the aft shower had a hole in it. Water was spraying out behind the bathroom cabinets.

Better maintenance would have replaced this part before failure. I am starting to put together a maintenance log to list all the equipment on the boat, part numbers, and service dates, and so forth. Is there anybody who has already developed any similar logs and would like to share?

Posted 18/06/2013: Katface has a fresh water leak. It seems worse when using tank 2 with several gallons of water in the bilge over a few hours. There is no leak if the pressure pump is turned off so I am hoping that the tanks are not seeping at their bottoms. I am off to try and find all the plumbing and trace down the leak. Before I start does anyone have any experience that is relevant? All ideas would be welcome. Best Regards, Tom Venator
