Dear Sven

I think we can agree that these yachts have lots of installations. At the time of build the available spaces have been evaluated and decisions made where things go, and the convenient areas are probably all occupied. The installations vary from boat to boat depending on the owner’s preferences.

Kind regards, Lars

Lars, could you please explain what the alternative spaces might be so that I can check if these are really occupied before I commence work.

The old oil tank was completely corroded and leaking which required replacing this too.

Dear Sven

The reason for the location is likely to be that other places are occupied. Pls check the situation.

Would it help to use the old oil tank, and install the new components onto it?

Kind regards, Lars

My Swan (n° 58) was equipped with a Lewmar commander System that powers 4 winches as well as the anchor windlass. The unit broke down last year and that´s where the nightmare began.

The unit is installed under the port aft coaming and there seems no way to access other than taking apart the complete port gas locker underneath the seat bench and then crawling into that locker and then around the bend to then start dismantle the unit in order to get it out.

This was done … only to find the unit to be beyond repair.

I commissioned a new unit according to the state of art hydraulics and now find it will not fit back the same way the old one came out.

Before starting a massive task I would like to know if any other owners have hydraulic power packs and if so where they may be installed and if in the same place there is a better way to install.

Thanks for any assistance that might be offered.

Regards, Sven Hansen
